Sydney’s Northern Beaches Council is gearing up to tackle their graffiti issue head-on by setting up a graffiti task force, similar to those in New York.
New South Wales councils have been inundated with over 3,000 graffiti Snaps this year alone, marking a significant 27% increase from last year.
Councillor Michael Gencher says the Council is “spending over one million dollars a year in removal and mitigation strategies, and that’s no good enough.”
Many councils from Wollongong to Newcastle have started contracting Graffiti Clean, a graffiti removal company, that’s tasked with removing graffiti before first light.
Graffiti Clean Managing Director, Richard Pitchford, provides insight into their removal tactics stating that if “handy work is removed quickly and nobody ever sees it, then there was no point to it.”
