Illegally parked cars are creating more than just an eyesore in Aussie suburbs; they’re forcing people with prams, wheelchairs, and mobility aids off the footpath and into the street.
A recent Yahoo News Australia article shared the story of Rockhampton local Noel McFarlane, who’s been pushing for action after years of seeing cars block footpaths in his neighbourhood. “It is quite a horrendous problem here,” he said, describing streets where you can count more than 60 parked cars on footpaths in just 15 minutes.
But it’s not just a local issue; it’s happening right across the country.
Snap Send Solve data shared in the article shows more than 15,000 reports of illegal footpath parking were made between January and October 2025. Victoria recorded the highest number, with over 6,400 reports, followed by New South Wales and Queensland.
As our CEO Danny Gorog told Yahoo News:
"Footpaths are designed for pedestrians, children, parents with prams, older residents, and people with mobility needs, when cars block these spaces, they put safety and accessibility at risk.”
And while some councils take an education-first approach, many still rely on community reports to know where the problem areas are.
