Australia’s Top Community Concern: Illegal Parking

Australia’s top community concern: illegal parking

If you’ve ever been frustrated by a car blocking your driveway or overstaying in a time-limited zone, you’re not alone.

Illegal parking has officially become one of Australia’s most complained-about issues, highlighted in a recent article on news.com.au.

With over 193,000 complaints made through Snap Send Solve in 2024, Aussies are increasingly taking action to address parking frustrations in their communities.

Illegal parking Snaps surge nationwide

Snaps of illegal parking surged across the country in 2024, with some states seeing increases of over 50%.

Here’s how the states and territories stacked up:

  • Victoria: Leading the pack with a massive 79,735 Snaps in 2024 — that’s a 32% increase on last year.
  • New South Wales: Coming in second with 66,293 Snaps, but growing with a 33% jump.
  • Queensland: A huge 24,486 Snaps reported, skyrocketing by 56%!
  • Western Australia: Making moves with 15,027 Snaps, an impressive 47% increase.
  • South Australia: 5,429 Snaps (+25%) show steady growth.
  • Tasmania: Punching above its weight with 1,772 Snaps, a 36% boost.
  • Australian Capital Territory: Small but mighty, with 600 Snaps marking a 50% rise.

From the bustling streets of Melbourne to the beaches of Queensland, Aussies are making their voices heard and taking action to keep their communities parking-problem-free.

Why are Aussies Snapping more?

Our CEO Danny Gorog explains the rise in complaints:

“Illegal parking continues to be a growing frustration across Australia, with issues like blocked driveways, cars parked in no-standing zones, faulty parking machines, and vehicles overstaying time limits creating daily challenges for residents, businesses, and councils alike,” he said.

With more than 1.35 million Snaps made in 2024 and over 850 connected Solvers,  Snap Send Solve has become a vital tool for resolving local issues quickly and efficiently.

More Than Just Parking

Illegal parking may be topping the charts, but Snap Send Solve is about much more. Aussies are also tackling issues like damaged roads, graffiti, illegal dumping, and faulty streetlights.

Adelaide local, Jodi White, is one of many Snappers making a difference. An avid user of Snap Send Solve, she likens the app to her “new Pokémon Go,” turning her walks into missions to improve her community.

“We can assist the council by being the boots on the ground and make their job easier, and make our community safer and more aesthetically pleasing to live in,” she shared.
